Strategic Transformation of the Samskrit Institutions in the country: Context and Agenda

Based on the deliberations made by various participants in the meeting held at Delhi on September 12, 2010, a set of specific actionable items were listed down during the last session of the day. It was decided that these will be circulated to the participants of the programme.

Each of these requires further detailing, refinement and identification of specific milestones, responsibilities and ownership for implementation. The participants will be discussing these in some detail among themselves and bring out the next level of details and action plans for consideration in the next meeting. A meeting could be scheduled during the World Book Fair to be held in January 7 11, 2011.

Actionable Agendas

1. A core group to examine the Sanskrit Commission Report review, create action plan, targets, implement the report and review periodically.

2. A programme for East-West Dialogue essentially what we mean by this is a dialogue between Sanskrit scholars and scholars from the other areas (main stream) plans for the next two years funds, agenda, periodic meeting schedules.

3. A research centre for Sanskrit pedagogical issues

-Programme for Sanskrit teachers

-Methods of creating literature for teaching purposes

-Creating new teaching methodologies

-Programme for content creation proficiency

4. A programme for addressing the school sector for Sanskrit matters

5. Non-formal education mechanisms as an important agenda for the future

6. A separate group to explore technology interface and deployment of technological tools for creating, disseminating content to a large number of users

7. Creating mechanisms for identifying huge volunteer base (largely comprising of senior citizens) for the cause of Sanskrit. Creating a forum for this volunteer base to interface with the Sanskrit fraternity and institutions for mutual benefit, resource sharing and volunteering work.

8. A robust mechanism/forum which serves the important purpose of continuously promoting a communication channel for the entire fraternity of Sanskrit institutions

9. A good structure (a formal organization/forum) for implementation of all the above programmes and stimulate collaboration amongst all Sanskrit Universities/Institutions on a sustainable basis. The forum must have adequate empowerment to implement programmes, monitor progress, make recommendations, etc. The forum must be represented by all Sanskrit institutions and have a governance structure which promotes ownership and active involvement in the Sanskrit matters.

10. Finally, a mechanism to meet once in every six months to take stock of progress on issues agreed on the previous meetings, systematic presentation of action taken reports, review of the progress, setting up new agenda and ensuring that a continuous set of activities are taken up for Strategic Transformation of the Sanskrit fraternity. An apex organization such as Sanskrit Promotion Foundation could be the nodal centre which can sponsor these periodic review mechanisms and meetings.
